Connect Earth-Sikkim & Sikkim State Civil Service Association - Connecting to Cause

Connect Earth-Sikkim is an initiative championed, endorsed and mentored by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) aimed at rejuvenating barren land and promoting sustainable agricultural practices by fostering widespread community participation and elevate the dignity of farming. The program seeks to strengthen Sikkim’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable rural development. This initiative promises sustainable, long-term benefits for land management, crop production, public health, economic growth, and holistic development in the State.

The Sikkim State Civil Services Officers’ Association (SSCSOA) was eager to contribute to this noble cause. The Association communicated with the Coordinator of the Mission, Shri Robin Seva, ADC (Development) Pakyong with due appreciation and congratulating for his exemplary coordination of the Mission – Connect Earth-Sikkim. And requested for identification of a suitable plot at Samsing for our Association to actively participate in this transformative mission. The Sikkim State Civil Service Officers’ Association (SSCSOA) decided to initiate a plantation drive of avocado saplings and nakima plants (tupistra nutans) as part of the Connect Earth – Sikkim initiative. The Phase-I event was conducted on August 9, 2025, at Samsing, Pakyong, on designated land allocated by the Government of Sikkim. Through this plantation drive, the SSCSOA reaffirmed its dedication to this transformative vision, emphasizing the importance of agriculture and traditional farming practices cherished in rural Sikkim.

The initiative also aims at reconnecting Civil Service Officers with nature, enabling young officers to inspire broader societal engagement in sustainable farming and environmental conservation. By aligning the SCS members with the programmes of the State Government, the SSCSOA seeks to foster a cooperative relationship with the government, ensuring mutual trust so that there is no trust deficit. Such collaboration will promote unity within the SCS community, enabling us to work together as a cohesive team in the future.
